The S3 motor is a “smarter motor” designed for enhanced performance, quieter operation, and seamless smart home integration. This article covers the motor’s features, programming instructions, retrofitting considerations, and Matter integration for Apple Smart Home.
Key Features of the S3 Motor
Upgraded Motor Arm:
Constructed from 6061-T6 aluminum for superior strength, reduced weight, and improved aesthetics.
Smooth Operation:
Engineered with smooth start/stop functionality to eliminate sudden movements and reduce noise.
Position Feedback:
Sends real-time roof position data to the app for accurate monitoring of the pergola’s louver position.
Retrofitting Consideration:
When retrofitting an S3 controller to a Skydance pergola, a new S3 motor with 4 connection pins is required.
S3 Motor Programming
Default Channel:
The motor is typically assigned to Channel 2 by default.
Entering Programming Mode:
Press and hold the motor programming button for 5 seconds until the LED blinks continuously.
Assigning a New Channel:
Press the UP button once (LED will blink 3 times) to assign the motor to a new channel.
Restoring Factory Settings:
Press and hold the motor programming button for ~15 seconds until the LED flashes quickly 3 times.
This resets:
RF transmitter assignment
Stroke limits
Direction of movement
Jog/continuous running status
After reset, the motor will automatically retract and extend to set its stroke.
Exiting Programming Mode:
Programming mode will automatically exit if no action is taken within 15 seconds.
Matter Integration (Apple Smart Home)
Reset Motor Stroke:
Required before connecting to Apple Smart Home.
Activate Pairing Mode:
Press the button three times within 2–3 seconds.
Wait Before Scanning QR Code:
Wait 10 seconds before scanning the QR code, located on the control box and in the package.
Pairing Window:
The controller remains in pairing mode for the first 5 minutes after power-on.
Tips & Best Practices
Always check the motor’s LED indicators for feedback during programming.
Avoid forcing any physical components during programming or reset procedures.
Ensure firmware or app updates are installed for accurate position feedback and Matter integration.
